Boot to DOS without loading Windows

I run Windows 95b on a computer with two hard disks, the larger of which is 20GB. If I boot from any bootable floppy disk to the A drive prompt, DOS cannot recognise my hard disks, presumably because it doesn't support FAT32 partitions. If I go to the Windows Start menu and boot to the C drive prompt, my hard disks are recognised. Can I copy files from my C drive to a floppy? This would enable me to boot to DOS without loading Windows.

We can only assume that your bootable floppies were formatted using an older version of DOS than the one Windows 95b uses. If your floppy disks were formatted from your current version of Windows, they will contain the same version of DOS as Windows uses. Accessing FAT32 partitions therefore won't be a problem.

You have two options - create a startup disk using Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel. Alternatively, insert a floppy disk, right-click the A drive and select Format. Remember to ensure that 'Copy system files' is selected under Other options. See also tip, Enable MS-DOS mode under Windows Me.
